Lopud Island

Belonging to the Elafite archipelago, the island of Lopud is a tiny jewel set in the blue water of the Adriatic sea, directly facing Dubrovnik (about 9 miles).

The island’s Croatian name, Lopud, comes from the Greek name Dalafota, changed by the Romans into Lafota.

Cars are not allowed on the island, making it a unique natural paradise.

The island is the second largest in the Elafite archipelago.  Located north-west of Dubrovnik, between the islands of Kolocep and Sipan, Lopud is often called the Island in the Middle (Insula Media), and, in economic terms, it is the most prosperous in the archipelago.

It has an area of 4.63 square kilometres and a population of about 400 inhabitants. The dolomitic valley extends between two gigantic calcareous ridges, at the ends of which lie the inlets of Lopud to the north-west and Sunj to the south-east.

Lopud has a costline of 11.5 kms of which 1.20 kms are wonderful sandy beaches. The highest point is Polacica (216m).

Thanks to its mild climate, annually has over 2584 hours of sun, the island is covered by dense Mediterranean foliage.
