The Elafites
It’s usually said that there are seven Elafite islands, but if we count more carefully, we can see that in fact the archipelago has thirteen islands and islets.
The main ones are:
Kolocep:
This is the smallest island in the archipelago. It has an area of 2.35 square kilometres and a population of about 200 inhabitants. Geologically speaking, it is made of limestone and dolomites. There are no surface water streams; water is drawn up from artesian wells.
There are two towns: Gornje Celo e Donje Celo.
Sipan:
This is the largest island with the most sightseeing opportunities in the archipelago. It is separated from the mainland by the Calamotta canal. It is surrounded innumerable reefs and tiny islets. Its geological composition is cretaceous limestone and dolomites. There are two towns: Porto Giuppana and San Giorgio.
